KANELBULLENS DAG [Oct. 4th, 2009|03:13 pm]
So today's Cinnamon Roll Day in Sweden. It's a big deal.

Because my thesis is all about cooking and interfacing with the past through food, IT WAS TOTALLY LEGIT TO BAKE THESE TODAY.

Surprise forgiveness! [Sep. 8th, 2009|08:18 pm]
Hey guys, what to hear something funny?

A good 8 years ago I broke up with my first college boyfriend, and although I disagreed with him on a lot of things, I was hurt (and angsty) enough to cast him out of my life *forever,* nevermind that I also cast out most of my social circle in the process. For years, it was the irrational grudge I wouldn't budge on.

Fast forward to today: I've got this branding exercise for school that I'm being indecisive about that involves picking three dead or dying brands to reinvent. And if there's anyone with a steel trap memory for random cultural detritus, it's Peter Diamond. So I asked him over Facebook's chat feature and got around 45 min worth of random suggestions. To top it all off, we actually even apologized in passing for not being friends or whatever. Hahaha. Apparently, out of the blue, I'm over it.

We just had an earthquake! 4.2 and over almost as soon as it began. Still kind of a thrill. Very glad it was small.

I'm working on a pair of socks for Kevin that are made of the most agreeable sock yarn I think I've ever encountered.

One class this semester is all about a film festival, which means watching movies is actually homework! Right now it's a toss up between the Coen Bros, Yimou Zhang, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and possibly Terry Gilliam (although I think he's been done pretty recently)...must pick one. One with many films.
(Akira Kurosawa? Christopher Nolan? Susanne Bier? Mel Brooks?) I watched a Coen Bros movie I'd never seen (The Man Who Wasn't There) to get myself started. Many more movies in my near future though.

Hope you're all well!

to quote Kevin, "Oh, it's just some nebula...that is mine! All mine!" [Aug. 18th, 2008|08:35 pm]

Party time! Excellent!

This is just a little post to report that my home computer center (there is no other word for it) is on its way to full functionality!

Things left to accomplish:
- put up the remaining shelf(es?)
- find my missing USB cable for the backup harddrive
- figure out the book storage situation
- get rid of all the detritus I packed up from the last place without thinking

But on the whole, very, terribly, incredibly exciting!

Also exciting is to learn that I didn't in fact sell the remaining Blik sticks. Wonder if we'll use 'em?

I could have used more videos like this last semester. Such niceness.

Friends, log in to read a secured action adventure story the likes of which you probably haven't heard in a while. It involves trespassing, the potential for assult, and gravity.

Erik's socks! finished!

Victory! Finished 'em last week and they are now in the mail. Horribly belated but I understand it's still cold in MD so they should get some good use before the end of the season. So it's not all bad...right...? hahaha

Um...I just deleted all my work from last semester.

Fuck?

I should be more upset about this...Iit is going to suck to redo this. Wonder if I could get my CDs back from Hunter and Jennifer?

___

EDIT

Hunter's going to give me back my CD, no shock there, but still very cool. I will track Jennifer down sometime next week.

To clarify, I deleted my prudent back-up and everything, so I think I'll be doing things differently in the future. Arm the DVD burner!

Today on a rainy day in the Castro, I walked past filming for the upcoming movie Milk, "the story of California's first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk, a San Francisco supervisor who was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone by San Francisco Supervisor Dan White in 1978."
Interesting to note that Sean Penn stars as Harvey Milk, oo celebrity ahh, not that I saw him.

It's also interesting to note that the area I was in had been altered to look like it did in the 70's. Store fronts had been changed to a) look older and b) (possibly) to match local history. For example, a Sprint storefront on the corner of Market and Castro was altered to look like an old Bank of America. A few stores down from and across the street I passed a knitting shop...or was it? The sign said knitting, there were balls of yarn in the windows...but inside I saw someone getting a haircut. Nearby there was a store front with (retro) Double Rainbow signs but no ice cream inside, and it was here that we FINALLY realized that the real signs on sandwhich boards out front and that the window displays were up for the filming.

Several walls in the area had been librally postered with old (looking) fliers but I really had to try to ignore the pixelated images on some and bad inkjet print lines on others...these are anachronistic problems that I'm sure nobody will notice in the film, but if this comes up later, you heard it here first!

Anyway, it must be exciting to own and/or operate a store in this area and to participate in filming like this!
